The FirstBoeing 787 Touches Down in Japan

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner arrived at Haneda Airport outside Tokyo which will go into service next month on October 26 with ANA (All Nippon Airways). The project is 3 years behind schedule, with FAA and EASA certification being delivered last month in August; this aircraft of ANA's will be the first to go into service.

The new 787 is a long-range, mid-size, wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner. The aircraft seats 210 to 290 passengers. The aircraft is made of mostly composite materials. It uses 20% less fuel that similar jetliners and is boasted by Boeing as their most fuel efficient model.

Captain Hideaki Hayakawa, who ferried the plane, said it flew smoothly and stably, and that he was excited to land in Tokyo. He added that he will make all possible preparations for the jet's inaugural commercial flight.

The first commercial flight will take place on October 25, 2011.

Yokohama Time Lapse

This video is a time lapse using a Pentax Q camera in Yokohama, a huge port city just south of Tokyo.
Yokohama is famous for many things, one of those being it's lovely nightview. This area is also a popular date spot for many young Tokyoite couples.

Suspected Piece of UARS falling near Japan

Saw this on Youtube today. A Youtube user shot a video of what looks like something burning up in the sky in Nagareyama, Chiba (千葉県流山市).

The user, thinks it may be a UFO.

Noting from the video, and other places on the Internet that link to this video, this was taken during the time frame that NASA UARS (Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite) was expected to be coming down.   According to NASA and the image below, the final track of the falling satellite was far from Japan, but judging from comments about the satellite tumbling unpredictably, it's possible a piece may have broken off at a different time.

According to the data from the image above, the track starts above South Africa and ends in the Indian Ocean.
